DrumPads is a small and simple application that puts a set of virtual drum pads on your screen. These drum pads can be played using either some keys on your keyboard, mouse clicks, or a touch screen.

The most remarkable thing for me about this application is the fact that it completely lacks any options and settings, and that’s not exactly a good thing. There are indeed quite a lot of different sounds, pads, and drum samples (12 pads and 40 samples, including toms, hi-hats, cymbals, etc.) supported, but I would have also liked to be able to quickly customize and change them as I wish. Unfortunately they can only be changed by rotating them pressing on an arrow on the top left of every sample’s area. Only 12 such areas are displayed by the app’s interface at any time. Furthermore, the interface itself cannot be customized and that’s quite a shame, as it looks rather dull.

Anyway, once you take the time and manage to configure the pads and samples to your liking, you can create some really interesting combinations and drum patterns using this tool. Too bad you can’t save them to local sound files either. You just play it and listen to them in real-time, and that’s it. I know it sounds rather weird and useless, but that’s how it goes. It’s a free application after all, so there’s not exactly much reason to be extra demanding.
