DPX and Cineon are image file formats designed to capture the full dynamic range of motion picture film negative. Mostly these files have a 10bit pixel depth using logarithmic scale to distribute samples/steps on the grayscale from black to white in such a way that there are more samples used for the dark range.
The current version will open the files as they are. During loading they are converted to an 8bit lineair format at this time. There are no additional conversions.
For more information on the Cineon format look at the KODAK Digital LAD Test Image page. The DPX format is described in the ANSI/SMPTE 268M-1994 document.
