DiskSavvy is a free analyzing tool that provides you with highly structured information about how space is being used in your system and on network discs. Once the selected drives or directories have been fully scanned, this clever tool will organize the data it has gathered in a variety of ways, always letting you decide which classification method(s) you prefer.
The program will categorize all your files and folders by size, date, type, user, extension, etc., in an amazingly short time. It also includes special filters for specific types of files, such as music, movies, and picture files, including – or not – those media files that have been labelled as “hidden” in your system. It will give you the precise amount of MB or GB each folder occupies, as well as the percentage of disk space they are using. It allows you to create your own profiles, for both scanning and reporting processes, though you will see here some limitations…
This free tool shares its interface with the superior Pro and Ultimate versions, so you will find that some of the options present cannot be used unless you upgrade and move to one of the commercial versions available. In fact, none of the “actions” and tuning options and some of the reporting capabilities that you will see in the menus will work here. However, do not let this put you off – this free tool stands in its own right, and you can use it any time you need to know how your files and folders are organized, so that you can then take the right decisions about it.
