Declan's Japanese FlashCards is a very useful shareware program for beginners eager to learn the Japanese written language (both Kanji and Kana). From the main application window, we can access the learning sections that are Flash Cards and Review Words. From these sections it is possible to learn a Japanese word (Kanji), number, or phrase, view its Kana pronunciation, listen to its audio pronunciation (by a native speaker), and its meaning (in English). After we have learned a group of words (e.g. numbers, days of the week, common expressions, etc.), we can choose to do any of the six types of exercises available: Multiple Choice Kanji/Kana, Multiple Choice English, Multiple Choice Listening, Connect Exercise, Grid Search Exercise, and Exercises to Complete List. These exercises give us the opportunity to practice reading and listening comprehension, vocabulary, spelling/typing, matching words with meanings, and so on. It is possible to do all the exercises with Kana characters, instead of Kanji. The free demo version (that can be evaluated for a 15-day period) contains three demo word lists. After purchasing the program, we can download and import over 100 audio word files from the online Audio Japanese WordFile Archive. This archive contains more than 3500 words and phrases.
