Data Recovery Guru is a utility designed to recover deleted and lost files. When you run this app, you will see a list of mounted volumes on the left part of the screen, and a button at the top that lets you display drives instead of volumes. You can start a scan after selecting the volume or drive that you want to recover files from. There are two types of scans. The first searches for deleted files only, and the second one - for both deleted and regular files. After the scan is initiated, the application starts listing all the files that it finds, and a counter at the top tells you how many have been found. The overall progress of the scan is shown at the bottom of the screen via a progress bar. I like that the app begins to show files and allows you to preview them during the scan that sometimes saves a lot of time but I don't like that there is no way to know how long a scan will take to be completed. There is also no way to set filters for a scan. This can be a problem when you want to find a specific file and you might end up waiting more than you should to recover the file.

Data Recovery Guru has a trial that lets you scan for deleted files and preview them but not recover them. To be able to retrieve them, you have to get the full version.
