Crypt3 is a very nice file encryption tool for the Mac. It allows you to protect specific files on your Mac against unauthorized use. Crypt3 uses AES-256 encryption, which is very hard to break and fast enough for every-day use. The app uses a drag-and-drop approach, which proves great and quick for the encryption of a single or multiple files.
When you drop a file into the drop zone, you will be asked to type in a password twice. This will be the password that you will have to type in when you want to open those files again. As an extra security measure, Crypt3 offers you to shred the original files. Shredding basically means erasing a file safely so that it can't be recovered with file forensics tools. This option is offered because you might encrypt a file and leave an unencrypted copy around, thus making encryption useless.
When Crypt3 encrypts a file, it will be saved in the same folder with the same name, except the extension will be different. When you double click that file, Crypt3 will ask you to type in your password to see the file.
