Crazy Taxi is a racing game in which you take on the role of a taxi driver trying to get your passengers to their destinations as quickly as possible. Not involved: safe driving or following the traffic laws. Since its arcade release in 1999, this game has appeared on almost every imaginable platform, including a highly-regarded Dreamcast version.
The premise of Crazy Taxi is very simple: pick up a passenger and get them where they're going as quickly as possible. You have a certain time limit to deliver your passenger; make it in time and you'll earn their fare. You can also earn money through other methods such as narrowly avoiding crashing into other vehicles. If you really want to make some money, you'll need to combine fast driving to reach your targets with zany stunt driving. There are different drivers and cabs to choose from, but the differences between them are relatively small. Beyond that, there's not much depth to it, but its fluid, fast-paced driving gameplay is so engrossing that it doesn't really need much else.
If you like driving games, Crazy Taxi provides a concentrated hit of adrenaline and enjoyment. It lacks the bells and whistles that its later descendants would have, but at its heart is a game that remains fun and exciting after all these years.
