The Standard Codec Pack installs audio and video codes that allow a DirectShow enabled player, such as Windows Media Player to play a variety of file formats. The package it comes with stream encoder codecs for creating audio and video files (from video/audio editing applications).
The codecs are not used in VLC Media Player.
