Christmas is one of the favorite seasons for many people, who not only decorate their homes, but also their offices and computers. This screensaver is a good complement to any Christmas-themed desktop. As its name implies, it features an animated fireplace view with several stockings, boxes with presents and a garland. The program has a comprehensive control panel that lets you customize many of the program's details. For example, you can set the decay and burning rates, the flame color and width, the color depth and the screen size. You can also decide if you want the screensaver to run permanently as a program, or to exit when moving the mouse. The program also has a clock that can be configured to the 24- or 12 hour formats.
The application also has a nice set of sounds. You can hear the snaps and crackle of the burning firewood. There is also a music background, which is probably one of the weakest parts of the application. It is a midi version of "Jingle Bells", which can become boring after a while. Fortunately, you can turn off the music (and any of the sound effects).
