Bipolar is a platformer game where movement is dictated by rotation and magnetism. The player controls a square by spinning it clockwise or counter-clockwise, and additionally by giving it a blue or red charge (analogous to positive and negative). The charge on its own does not affect movement, but causes interaction with magnets of varying strength in the level that repel or attract depending on the interaction of charges. The goal of each level is to get the spinny-magnet-box to a swirling portal on a far side of the screen.

Despite the presence of a "User-Generated Levels" section, the app does not come with a level editor. And while the game saves the fastest time of completion for each of the 50 included levels, allowing the player to infer down the road which they have completed, it does not explicitly track completion. Despite these and other faults, the gameplay is sound and the levels well-designed to boot. Certainly an impressive feat for a team of student developers.

Sam's Protip: Coming to rest on a magnet and then activating a matching charge can sometimes provide an immense speed boost.
