Avernum: Escape From the Pit is set in a vast underground nation where all manner of misfits try to survive against monstrous beings that survive them. The inhabitants are exiles, having been sentenced to live underground by the evil Emperor Hawthorne, who rules the surface world. Those who live in underground Avernum yearn to escape, and so they have begun to plot a rebellion against the cruel dictator of the surface. Customise your heroes, search for gold and weapons, and battle deadly monsters.
The original Avernum came out in 2000, and so this re-released version has a distinct turn-of-the-millennium flavour. Some players may be put off by its more dated aspects, but others will appreciate the solid gameplay and in-depth storytelling that made Avernum a fan favourite on its first release.
