While the game has historical themes, the gameplay does not strictly conform to real-life events in history. Still, Anno 1602 is greatly inspired by humanity’s Age of Exploration and Discovery. The game begins with you and a few but enough materials that will help you in building a small colony on yournewly discovered island. From here, you must start constructing establishments that can house your people and get you started with a booming economy. These buildings will also be essential in making sure your people are well fed and taken care of. For instance, fishing huts are one of the best food sources you can provide for your colony. At the start, you will have to be patient and stick to constructing buildings that can provide the basic necessities. As you expand your territory, you will be able to build more helpful establishments that will help your colony’s growth like schools, plantations, churches, and even theaters! The game’s main objective is for you to be a large and thriving colony.

Strategizing is important in this game so you are able to balance your priorities when it comes to setting up new institutions. Of course, things will not be as smooth-sailing as you think it would be. Anno 1602 is not just about building and expanding your territory but as well as defending it from pirates and other neighbor colonies who would threaten to take over yours.
