This is a commercial DVD ripper which allows you to convert your DVD movies to a variety of formats that can be played natively on the iPad. The ripper supports quite a few formats, including MPEG-4, H.264, MOV, and M-JPEG for video and WAV, MP3, AAC, AIFF and M4A for audio. There are conversion profiles with optimized conversion settings for the iPad and a variety of other devices, such as iPhone 4, iPhone 3G/S, iPod Touch, iPod Nano and iPod Classic.
In terms of design, I think this app leaves a bit to be desired. It isn't ugly, but it certainly looks outdated. It is simple, though, and very intuitive. And the app has all the features that you can expect from a commercial DVD ripper: a trimmer, cropper, a video editor to touch up the image, support for subtitles and lots of conversion profiles.
In my testing, I was able to convert one of the titles from a TV show DVD into a MOV file optimized for the iPhone 4. I even trimmed the video to a 1-minute clip and added subtitles. The results were OK. My only problem was with subtitles, they didn't look really good and were hard to read.
