Air Video Server is a video streaming application for Mac. It is the server-side component of a software solution that allows you to stream your video files to an iOS device. In my case, I have been using it to stream videos to my iPhone whenever I am away from home.
The server application is totally free. However, the iOS app has both a free, limited version and a paid version that is the one you should use. This is the first iOS app that I bought, and it is one of the best I have seen in a long time.
There are so many things I like about it. First, it allows you to add as many videos as you want. You can add your entire video library to it. When you connect to it from your iPhone, for example, you can watch any video in real-time. If the format is supported by the iPhone, it will play instantly. If not, the file will be converted and streamed to your device, in real-time. Videos play smoothly on my iPhone, regardless of the original format. The quality is great and I have never been unable to connect to Air Video Server, even when I am not at home.
From the settings menu, you can add security in the form of password protection. You can also choose what port you want the application to use for incoming connections.
Air Video Server is available for Windows as well.
