After Focus is intended to add focus and depth to photographs even if they were originally taken without these effects in mind. The application supports processing most picture file extensions. Luckily, even though it is very easy to use, there is an excellent tutorial that teaches you the basic steps.

The tool’s interface is neat and straightforward. In this regard, it is quite convenient that it allows side-by-side comparison of the source and the processed images. To add focus, you just need to draw a rectangle around the object you want to stand out and let the application automatically make the necessary changes using powerful algorithms. However, this does not mean you cannot personalize the effects to your likes. In this respect, there are two processing modes available: Regular and Customized. Additionally, you can adjust the Blur level while previewing the results in real time. In the case of depth effects, the procedure is rather different. This time you should use strokes to adjust their scope.

In a nutshell, After Focus produces good results even if you are not an experienced photographer. It is good news that it does not alter the original images. However, the newly created picture files may get somewhat lossy, even if the source files were not. Regrettably, this issue makes them unsuitable for printing in large sizes. The product can be purchased from the Mac App Store. It is shame that it has not been updated in a while, as a result, it does not support macOS latest versions, Catalina and Big Sur.
