AES Crypt is a very simple tool that lets you quickly protect files by encrypting them using the powerful AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) algorithm.
The main characteristic of this tiny tool is its utter simplicity. AES Crypt doesn’t even offer a typical user interface. It installs itself as an extension for the Windows Explorer’s context menu, allowing you to encrypt and decrypt any file just by selecting the AES Crypt’s entry from the right-click menu and providing the right password. There are absolutely no other options, settings, or additional features at all.
In my opinion, an important aspect that you should take note of is that when this tool encrypts a file, it creates a new, encrypted copy of that file, with the AES file extension, and it also leaves the original file as it was. You may need to delete the original file manually, after a new, encrypted copy has been created, in order to ensure the proper safety of the contained data. Other than that, there’s nothing else to criticize about this neat little tool. It works as intended and I’m sure that many people will consider its exaggerated simplicity a benefit rather than a disadvantage. It’s also completely free to use.
