4Videosoft iPhone 4 Ringtone Maker for Mac is a commercial ringtone tool. It allows you to create your own ringtones, which you can then load on your iPhone 4, or any other device that supports the M4R format. This application lets you load video files, DVD movies and audio files. It has very good input format support, like all the other utilities I tried from 4Videosoft. Once you have loaded a file, you can simply select a part of it that you want to use for your ringtone and discard the rest. You are shown a timeline where you can drag and drop to select a part of the file that is loaded. You can of course listen to the audio before and while you are doing this. Below the timeline, you will find two fields that let you add a fade in and fade out effect. All you need to to is select how many seconds these effects will be applied to the clip.
By default, 4Videosoft will check to see if your iPhone is connected and it will tell you when it can't detect it. The app does this because it can automatically put the ringtones on your phone. If there is no iPhone connected, it will simply save the M4R file to your Mac's hard drive, and you can sync it with iTunes later.
