Creating 3D shapes is very useful in drawing plans, designing pieces of equipment, and so on. Nevertheless, this can be much more difficult than drawing in 2D.
Unlike other more complex programs, 3D Crafter is fairly easy to use. At first, you only need to choose the shape you want to use and click on the main window. The shape will then appear, and you can control its size, level of detail, and so on. Then, you can add more shapes interlinked among them and modify them to form objects, furniture, and even animals and other living beings. The program gives you many interesting tools that allow you to create objects much more complex than simply the basic shapes (sphere, cube, cone, and more), such as the Extrude and Smooth tools, that allow you to modify the original shapes to develop more sophisticated forms. Once you have drawn the object you need, you can add a color and/or a texture, and even animate it. Then, you can export the object to different 3D programs.
Albeit it is not as complex to use as other more specialized programs, this one requires some time to get familiarized with all its functions. Nevertheless, it has several tutorials that will help you learn how to use the program. Thus if you want to start drawing 3D images easily, then you may want to give this free program a try.
v10.2 [May 27, 2018]
What's New in 3DC 10
Primitive Drawing
Primitives can now be drawn using a click and drag interface.
Simplified Operation Availability
Operations for the current selection, and only the current selection, are now shown on the construction panel.
Improved Availability of Operation Options
After an operation is applied the options for that operation are now shown on the construction panel.
Navigation Improvements
Orbit, Pan, and Zoom are now the standard navigation methods. Navigation no longer requires moving the mouse pointer away from your work.
Compact Edit Control
The Edit Control is now compact, with larger, easier to click surfaces.
Resizing Handles
The standard shape selection bounding box now has handles for resizing.
Auto-Alignment
Shapes now auto-align to the grid and other shapes when being moved, or resized with the new Resizing Handles.
Autodesk FBX Exporter
The Autodesk FBX file format can now be exported to. This format is primarily for exporting for games, including Train Sim World.
Open Source Extensions
Open Source extensions (formerly called Extensions) for exporting, importing and processing geometry are now available. They can be installed into both the freeware and Pro versions .
Simplified Interface
Newcomers to 3DC can now choose to use a simplified interface with seldom used functions hidden, though easily accessible.
Simplified Animation Interface
Functions not available in animation mode are now entirely hidden while creating animations.
JavaScript
The JavaScript language is now the standard scripting language for 3DC.
Auto-Updating
3DC 10 is now a Windows Store app which means it now automatically updates itself.
Enhanced Freeware Features
Many formerly 3DC Pro-only features are now part of the freeware version including:
-exporters for virtually every train simulator including Dovetail Game’s Train Simulator
-3D Studio (3ds) exporter
-3DC Pro’s additional modelling operations
- Several Amabilis written extensions (formerly called Extensions) including the Train Simulator Wizard
