2048 is a popular game where your objective is to obtain the 2048 number by merging tiles on a board. Each tile has a number (powers of 2 from 1) and once two similar blocks collide, they merge into a single cell showing the correspondent sum.
This app is nothing like other 2048 games I played in the past. Instead of providing you with a square grid where you need to move tiles to obtain the 2048 number, the app gives you access to a hexagonal board and different keys to arrange the blocks.
2048 Hex lets you choose between 3 game modes (3x3, 4x4 or 5x5 boards), automatically saves your progress, and offers you detailed instructions. You can play this game by using your keyboard keys or your mouse.
I played all three game modes and I have to say this is a lot more fun than an usual 2048 app as you have access to additional tile moving options (diagonally: upper left, upper right, bottom left, and bottom right).
The one thing that bothers me is the fact that you can only play 3 games and then you need to wait for an hour to start a new game. Basically, you have 3 "lives". Once you receive the Game Over message for 3 times, the app displays a timer on the upper side of the screen showing you need to wait an hour to play again. You can get rid of this restriction by making an in-app purchase. The price is affordable and worth it if you like playing this puzzle game.
